This is Emmett and 4 months...Now that he's actually 5 months...so I'm a little behind! I had to get in a picture in this little outfit, as I have one for each of the other kids. We'll call it tradition? At any rate, on the 22nd of April we had Emmett dedicated at church. My grandparents from Canada were able to be there, which made it even more special. Dedicating a child for us is not just about getting up in front of church, its not just a formality. For us it is such a blessing. Its a blessing to be able to publically raise up our child, declaring him as a complete gift, and also declaring our inadaquacies as parents. Its about sharing our prayers for this child and our need for prayer and help as we seek to bring him up in a way that is honoring to the Lord. One of our favorite things about dedicating our kids is being able to share what each one's name means, and how that relates to what we desire for that particular child. I'll share a little of that, though not nearly as eloquantely as Andy did.
Emmett is a take on the Hebrew word 'emet', meaning TRUTH. Liam is gaelic and means defender. During my pregnancy I had the opportunity to meet almost weekly with a few Jehovah's Witnesses. Our conversations were often frustrating, and broke my heart. In all their passion to proclaim their "truth", they missed the One who is Truth. They failed to see Jesus as "the Way, the Truth and the Life." and that besides Him there is no other. To the Jewish thinker, truth is not just something to be said, its about how we live. And this is our prayer for Emmett. That he defend the truth at all costs. That he would come to know and love the Savior with a passion, and live a life in truth, set apart for the Lord.
